A
NEW BEGINNING, IN A NEW MILLENNIUM
Report From the
PNAS Board of Directors
As
we are now in the information technology and globalization era, the new
Board of Directors of the PNAS for the year 2000 has come up
with a comprehensive plan that will give the PNAS a fresh start to
keep pace with the present trends in the international numismatic and antiquarian
community.
Primarily,
the PNAS Board focused on the aspects of CLUB ACCESSIBILITY TO ITS MEMBERS
and BETTER AUCTIONS. It is in this context that the Board decided
to make some changes on the old system and arrangements, but at the same
time reaffirmed some basic guidelines and rulings. Thus, through the leadership
of our new president Mariano M. Cacho, Jr., the Board now present the following
developments within the PNAS.
A
NEW CLUBHOUSE: Since many of the members
were not able to utilize the old clubhouse in Malate due to the problem
of accessibility, the Board decided to move the clubhouse to Cubao, Quezon
City, which is the middle part of the metropolis. The new clubhouse
has an improved library, video and audio, communications and kitchen facilities.
On reservation basis an active member can used the 80 sqm ground floor
plus two rooms on the second floor for small gatherings and functions.
A
NEW NEWSLETTER AND PNAS MONOGRAPH: The
Board has created a newsletter and publications committee which is headed
by Ramon Villegas, Jr. The first issue of our semi-annual newsletter,
named The COLLECTOR, was distributed to active members and
friends last April.
The
new Board has unanimously approved the reviving of the PNAS Monograph.
This publication will feature important numismatic articles published in
the past with additional annotations considering recent discoveries and
findings. Prof. Ambet Ocampo and Mr. Richard Lopez, famous historian and
writer and former PNAS president respectively, have agreed to contribute
their expertise in this undertaking.
A
NEW COMMUNICATIONS SET UP: Aside from
the usual postal and conventional telephone system the PNAS Board has upgraded
the communications facilities at its new clubhouse. We can now be reach
through fax and cellphone and email.
DISTRIBUTION
OF PNAS PUBLICATIONS: All active life,
regular and foreign members or those who have in one way or another contributed
to the club efforts will receive copies of PNAS publications. Regular auction
patrons and inactive members shall at least receive a copy of the auction
catalogue and or organizational notices.
The
PNAS spend 25.00 pesos for every catalogue sent within the country. In
order to reduce this expenditure a new distribution scheme has been adopted
by the Board. Members are encouraged to pick up their copies at the clubhouse
or designated pick-up centers established in major areas within the metropolis.
For
local members who still wish to have their copies delivered by post you
can help us in this cost cutting endeavor by sending us five pieces of
self addressed 5 3/4" x 9" document envelopes with 25.00 pesos of stamps
affixed on each envelope.
A new
delivery scheme for foreign members has yet to be finalized. The PNAS will
definitely appreciate any generous contribution and assistance in this
regard.
NEW
MEMBERSHIP LIST: The Membership Committee
has just finished the encoding of its membership database. Revisions are
being made to amend specific particulars such as current address and membership
numbers. The PNAS Membership Committee is inviting all its members to send
in their business cards and / or contact information for inclusion in our
database.
NEW
ANNUAL DUES PAYMENT SCHEME: The Board
feels sees the necessity to simplify and enhance the collection of membership
dues. Thus, membership fees to the PNAS must be paid on or before March
16, the anniversary of our club. Being a newly introduced system, members
have until the end of June 2000 to settle all dues.
A
NEW SET OF CLUB ACTIVITIES: The
Board has already finalized the calendar of activities for the remaining
months of the year 2000. Aside from the regular auction, the first
held last April 9, a regular monthly meeting and mini auction will
be held on the third Saturday of each month. A provincial educational trip
is also in the offing.
Your
Board strong feels that the above plans and programs will enable it to
continue its 71-year legacy.
We
would like to take this opportunity to thank those who for the past couple
of months contributed their time and resources to enable us to attain some
of our objectives.

Salamat! *
