The PNAS / BAYANIHAN
First Bi-Club International Auction
The
two-day eventful first bi-club International Auction conducted jointly
by the Philippine Numismatic & Antiquarian Society (PNAS) and the Bayanihan
Collectors Club, Inc. (BCCI) held last August 26 and 27 at the Quezon City
Sports Club was a resounding success to
the
astonishment of both clubs exceeding expectation as shown by the vigorous
enthusiasm by both the local and foreign collectors and dealers who participated
in this marathon event.
The
auction, numbering a record total of 1,520 lots show casting some of the
very best and finest Filipiniana collectibles ever assembled was a breakthrough
in a locally sponsored affair, thus by far surpassing any single event
in the history of local auctioning in the country to date. The auction
was divided into two sessions, with the first dedicated to stamps, postal
history, document, ephemera's, maps and prints, books and magazines, photographs,
picture post card, stereo views, and antiquities. Some of the more outstanding
items here
are
the rare 1925 12c Lambert Imperforated Pair Overprint Specimen, the very
rare 1852 Valliant/Auguste Nicholas Eglise de Binondo a Manille hand-colored
lithograph, and Rizal's extremely rare EI Filibusterismo Gent 1891 First
Edition. The second session was devoted
to
Philippine coins, paper money, world crowns and minors, medals tokens and
buttons. Eminently prominent among these are the choice full mint brilliant
luster 1866 20 Centavos Isabella II, the high grade uncirculated 1880 10
Centavos Alfonso XII, the equally rare almost uncirculated 1812 C-SF Cataluna
8 Reales Ferdin VII, and the highly sought after 1897 Biak-na-Bato token.
Worth
mentioning here was the immensely unexpected impact of bids received thru
the internet, accounting to about 33 percent of the total bids received
- all these owing mainly
to
the ingenious vision, foresight and painstaking sacrifice by some of the
more enterprising members of the Board of Directors of both clubs: Albert
Montilla, Atty. Jorge de los Santos, Ed Nocom, Jen-Jen de Jesus, Raffy
Fermin, Tony So. Alex Irasga, Jr. and to those other individuals who labored
silently for the benefit and success of the project, specially the invaluable
and unselfish technical effort done by Abe Luspo, Jr. in creating the web
site that made it possible for the foreign-based collectors to gain instant
access thru the world wide web also to Ed Nocom for his generous efforts
in maintaining and coordinating the dizzying traffic of internet bids right
up to the auction day.
It
must also be pointed out that the event would have been made more exciting
and dramatic if only BNSP had joined and participated in this event in
exhibiting, advertising, and promoting the choice, premium quality Filipiniana
collectibles thru an internationally held auction.
All
told, this remarkable singular event - the very first, prosperous and triumphant
bi-club auction activity would not have been made possible without the
total support and devotion of the Auction Committee headed by Mr. Mariano
"Nito" Cacho and Mr. Ramon "Mon" Villegas respectively.
It
is with this tone that we in the collecting trade extend our deep gratitude
to all those who made this singular event such a massive success, and likewise
with many thanks to the multiple bidders who gave us an equally multiple
smiles.
